Hunting & fishing

Andalusia is well known for its great hunting possibilities and combination with shots at other fincas e.i. partridge, hare hunting or monterias can easily be arranged. The area of the shoot is about 900 ha, surrounded by a 2 m-high game fence. To the north Los Cerrillares borders the lake El Aguila, to the west the river Retortillo, to the east a small road and to the south other shoots.

From 1996 the deer have been spared from hunting and the stock has increased to 80 mares and approx. 50 males. The deer hunting season is from October to February, stalking or high stand.

Wild boars are hunted with "monteria", battue once a year with about 250 dogs and 80 shooting places and the bag is at 35 animals hunted. Various wild boars have been awarded silver or bronze medals. Shooting season is from October to February in monterias, single shooting is possible all year around.

Partridges (aprox. 250 birds per season) are hunted with a decoy between January and March. Partridge battues can be organised in the valley of the Guadalquivir on other hunting estates.

Wild pigeons are hunted from October to February from 15 stands and about 250-500 pieces are shot a year. Wild ducks can be hunted from November to January.

About 30 minutes from Los Cerrillares there is the possibility of clay pigeon shooting, and it's open all year round. Here you also have the opportunity to train your dogs on feather game or bullet-proofing. The hosts of Los Cerrillares successfully trained their three dachshunds there and are happy to help with advice and information.

There are many rabbits, but these are rarely hunted as it upsets the large game. In January, however, depending on the scent and growth of the wheat you can join the hare hunt with greyhounds. This is a very old Spanish tradition and in 80% of the cases the hare remains the winner. You can follow the hunt by foot or on horseback.

Foxes are hunted almost all year.

Since 1997 fallow deer have been kept in a paddock, and the there is now a herd of approximately 35 animals.

Fishing in Los Cerrillares´ nearby rivers and lakes requires a special licence, but your host can organise this if at least one month’s notice is given. Once obtained, you can fish for large carp, sunfish, barbs and black bass. Contact Udo in advance to ascertain what equipment you will need to bring.
